NAUDERO: Pakistan People’s Party leader and Sindh Assembly member-elect Imtiaz Shaikh has refuted rigging allegations leveled against him by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) candidate on Monday. He said that the rigging allegation in the election was equal to leveling allegations on the Pakistan Rangers. He congratulated the paramilitary forces, police and the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding free and fair elections in the Shikarpur PS-11 constituency. After taking oath, he said he would work very hard for the development of his area and would serve his people. Imtiaz Shaikh won the by-election after a tough contest with JUI-F leader Nasir Mahmood Soomro and others. However, Soomro rejected the results alleging rigging, and demanded of the government to order re-election under the supervision of the army. Imtiaz Shaikh secured 35,237 votes, Nasir Mahmood Soomro 26,244 votes and Azam Brohi, a PTI candidate, 602 votes.
